Enjoy “Shikayose” – A Summer Tradition in Nara

One of Nara’s most beloved summer traditions is Shikayose, a unique event held at Tobihino in Nara Park.

During this special event, the sound of a natural horn echoes across the fields, attracting numerous deer from the Kasugayama Primeval Forest

As the horn begins to play, deer emerge one after another from deep within the forest and come running toward the sound.

The sight of so many deer gathering together is truly spectacular and can only be experienced in Nara.

Shikayose also offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Nara’s unique culture, where people and deer have coexisted for centuries.

 It is an event that many visitors look forward to every year.

In summer, the lush green grass of Tobihino creates a beautiful setting, and the sight of deer running across the open field makes for excellent photographs.
